Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival -Frankenmuth, Michigan
Located in Heritage Park, Frankenmuth, this Bavarian Festival, a tradition for over 50 years, brings the warmth and hospitality of Michigan’s charming Bavarian village, Frankenmuth, to the fore. Visitors and locals alike sing and dance to Bavarian music played by colorful, costumed German bands, and taste the hearty Bavarian foods of plump bratwurst, barbecued chicken and homemade pretzels.
A feeling of “Gemütlichkeit”, which loosely translated means a welcome social acceptance for all surrounds the entire community of Frankenmuth beginning on Thursday night and lasts through the Bavarian Fest parade on Sunday. This family oriented event draws people from all over the world. Bavarian music is played by lederhosen clad German bands. Saturday’s events feature the coronation of the Bavarian Princess and her court and the Kinder Tag parade which gives our youngsters the opportunity to express and celebrate their heritage. Visitors also have the entire weekend to enjoy a midway with rides and games. Local service groups offer everything from chicken barbeques to German fare. Participate in face painting, or simply take in the hands-on craft area.
Each year, over 100,000 people enjoy the annual Sunday Bavarian Parade, which will be held on June 12th, 2016. With over 100 entries that include marching bands, beautifully Pavilion decorated floats, dance clubs, visiting dignitaries, entertainers, royalty and our newly crowned Bavarian Princess and her Court. The Sunday parade is one of only two times during the year that Frankenmuth’s Main St (Michigan Highway 83) is completely shut down. The route begins on the north side of Frankenmuth then works it’s way to Heritage Park where all the festival events and entertainment are held.
